Let’s take a journey through the inquisitive mind of a Polish artist, Zdzisław Beksiński, who created a name for himself with his dystopian surrealistic paintings, full of post-apocalyptic imaginary and nightmarish creatures. Beksiński is no longer with us to further explain the vast roster of more than 300 of his paintings. The only thing we know is that he wanted to paint “in such a manner as if I were photographing dreams.”
That is exactly what will pop into your head when you see his works. Even though they use recognizable everyday objects, these objects are paired and arranged in a unique and imagery way.
These incredible combinations gave birth to inspiring scenarios, which do create an anxious feeling when looking at them. The artwork is amazingly abstract, but it does have the power to invoke world references. The artist’s explanation may lie in these enigmatic words: “What matters is what appears in your soul, not what your eyes see and what you can name.”
